The Wedding

[Nederland CO, Sep 1-2, 2023]

Getting to Colorado from Mississippi took us pretty much all day. We drove to New Orleans, where we caught a direct flight to Denver. From there, it was another hour or so to Nederland, CO, an old mining town near Boulder.

I remembered passing through this tiny little town in the Colorado Rockies when Olivia and I drove to Rocky Mountain National Park from Vail last year. When my friend Jeff told me he was going to have his wedding here, it rang a bell…. a quick look at the map and lo and behold, it was on our route on the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway! I was thrilled to be back so soon, and so unexpectedly!

We got to town at dusk and grabbed a quick dinner at Ubon Thai Cuisine. Ash’s ginger fish was amazing!

The next day, Saturday, started out with leisurely coffee on the front patio of our AirBnB. It was nice to be in nice temperatures again after the hot and humid days down south.

We grabbed more coffee in town, at Salto Coffee, which was right next to the Thai place we had dinner at the night before. From there, we hiked the Barker Meadows Reservoir. It was more of a mellow, flat walk than a hike, but it was still quite pretty.

The wedding was a blast. The location was Jeff’s family cabin, outside among the trees. It was such an intimate location and it looked like a fairy tale in the forest! Some people I knew from before and some people I met for the first time, which was a good mix to have. The short bout of rain did not dampen anyone’s spirits, or maybe it was the spirits in our glasses… At any rate, great time was had by all!
