Dubost Winery

[Paso Robles, CA, Nov 28, 2021]

We had enjoyed our scenic drive up to Pinnacles, so we wanted to do something fun on the way back also. Paso Robles, known for its wineries and olive groves, sounded appealing. In addition, there was a movie location to be scouted. B and I had seen the 2017 movie Destination Wedding not too long ago. Starring Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder, it was partially filmed at Dubost Winery in Paso Robles. We’re always up for checking out movie locations on our trips, so this seemed like a no-brainer.

We got there right as they opened at 10:30 am. We were greeted by co-owner Kate Dubost. As soon as she heard we were there because of the movie, she lit up and sat with us to tell us the story of how the movie got to be filmed there. Her husband, Curt, who’s a superintendent for the Paso Robles school district by day, also stopped by with the wood-fired pizzas we had ordered. It turns out they both had cameos in the movie – he as the father of the groom and she as his girlfriend. Their son, Ted, played the groom. A family friend in the movie business had suggested their winery as a filming location, and the rest is history.

We thoroughly enjoyed our wine tasting, then took a stroll up the hill. At a picnic table nearby, a wedding sign from the movie was still propped up.

Further up the hill, we enjoyed sweeping views of the valley. I’ve been to Paso Robles a few times already but there won’t be a shortage of wineries to visit any time soon.
