25-Year High School Reunion

[Sofia, BG, May 28 – Jun 9, 2024]
After a busy three days in Amsterdam, I was glad to be in Sofia, where I spent my days working from home, hanging out with my parents, and seeing friends and family when I could. The view of the city and Vitosha mountains from my parents’ 5th floor condo never gets old.

I always make it a point to stop by some of my favorite buildings. If you want a full tour of Instagrammable spots in Sofia, check out this blog post.

After almost running into my friend Toni in Biloxi, MS last year and then again in Cherokee, NC also last year, we were finally in the same place at the same time in Bulgaria. Well, almost. She was in Bulgaria already, but she made a special trip from her home city to Sofia to have coffee with me and our other mutual friend Tanya.

I had arrived just a few days after May 24th, which is Cyrillic Alphabet Day. I happened to walk by the national library and saw the remnants of the celebration in the form of three giant sculptures of the first three letters of the alphabet.

But the real reason this whole entire trip happened when it did was my 25th high school reunion. I had made it to Sofia for both my 10th and 20th reunions, so I couldn’t miss this one. It was held at Kitchen 59, a hotel somewhat on the outskirts with a rooftop bar and pool. It was a great venue with both indoor and outdoor spaces. I loved seeing the sunset and the cool air after a few hot days in Sofia. We all had a great time!
